INJURY ADVICE
Although massage can help repair injuries such as muscle strains, it would not be advisable to treat during the first 72 hours of the injury occuring. Treatment during this acute stage may make the injury worse.
It is vital to assess the severity of the injury and apply, swift, appropriate support. This will limit the incidence of further injury occuring and minimising some of the bodies natural reponses whilst encoraging other favourable and functional repair.
Follow the PRICE protocol:
P - Protect the injured area
R - Rest to allow the initial repair
process to begin
I - Ice the area for between 5 and 20
minutes
C - Compression to reduce the space
available for swelling / bleeding
E - Elevation to assist with the draining
of waste products
